Islamia High school India 1902

Islamia High School
Secunderabad.

Hyderabad: "This 121-year-old middle school examination certificate, issued in 1902, which is in my collection actually belongs an ancestral relative, who had completed schooling from Islamia High School in Secunderabad," recalls architect-historian Asif Ali Khan with a sense of pride. Incidentally, he is also the great-grandson of Babu Khan, one of the donors of Islamia school.
Retracing the history of the institute’s heritage structure, Khan says, "late 1800s was a period when educational reforms were happening in erstwhile Hyderabad state. This was the time when Salarjung I was the prime minister under Nizam VI. Many educational institutes were established in this period and Islamia High School is one of them."

Constructed in 1882, the school, which stands as a symbol of colonial architecture, is situated opposite Monda market in Secunderabad. However, given the vagaries of time, although the structure still survives, it is in a decrepit state. It is a pale shadow of the awe-inspiring image it commanded as an institution of learning. It was held in high esteem, thanks to the passionate patronization by several distinguished personalities of successive eras.

"Back in 1859, the state of Hyderabad opened a Persian and a vernacular school in every taluk and Persian, English and vernacular schools at district headquarters. The monthly fee in taluk and district schools was one anna and two annas respectively," another city-based historian pointed out.

Going by its architectural description, the Islamia school building has a prominent entrance with a richly ornamented ‘elliptical arch’, a moulded scroll, name of the school and year of construction (1882) embossed bearing an insignia of ‘star and crescent moon’ in stucco finish with semicircular arches on either side. A short curved staircase leads directly to classrooms, which showcases the British architectural influence.

A marble plaque affixed at the entrance door bears names of prominent donors, who had funded the building’s construction. Seth Ram Gopal, Babu Khan, Alladin were among the donors.

The marble plaque depicts that permission was granted by the then British resident to construct the school in the British army cantonment.

Another heritage lover Bhanu Prathap reveals "My 94-year-old grandfather studied in Islamia High School. He profoundly recalls his Urdu and Telugu teachers and classmates. One of them was the father of veteran politician Damodar Raja Narasimha."

Md. Jaffar Hussain, working as a junior assistant at Islamia school for the past 25 years, says, "The school runs classes from 6 to 10 for boys. Though the strength is around 125, around 50 children turn up on a daily basis. Shortage of teaching staff is also a major concern. Marginalised children from neighbouring areas like Parsigutta, Bhoiguda, Patigadda, Rasoolpura attend the school."

Ekamber, a former student, discloses that he studied in the school in 1977. "It was back in 1977 that I wrote my SSC examinations in this beautiful building, which was also our centre."

The order could signal an impending ground offensive, though the military said Thursday that while it was preparing,

a decision had not yet been made. The Israeli military pulverized the Hamas -ruled Gaza Strip with airstrikes and blocked deliveries of food, water, fuel and electricity ahead of a possible ground invasion as Palestinians tried to stock up on supplies. International aid groups warned of a worsening humanitarian crisis after Israel prevented entry of supplies from Egypt to Gaza’s 2.3 million people. The Israel-Hamas war has claimed at least 2,800 lives on both sides since Hamas launched an unprecedented surprise attack on October 7.

Israel-Hamas war news: Israel army drops flyers warning Gazans to flee 'immediately' reportes

The Israeli military on Friday dropped flyers on Gaza warning residents to flee "immediately" to the south, AFP correspondents in the Palestinian territory said. "Evacuate your homes immediately and go south of Wadi Gaza," read flyers dropped by drones and seen by AFP. A map featured on the flyers showed an arrow pointing south across a line in the central Gaza Strip.

Israel-Hamas war news: Moving severely ill people in Gaza amounts to 'death sentence' WHO

The World Health Organization said on Friday local health authorities in Gaza had informed it that it was impossible to evacuate vulnerable hospital patients from northern Gaza after Israel's military called for civilians to relocate south within 24 hours. "There are severely ill people whose injuries mean their only chances of survival is being on life support, such as mechanical ventilators," said WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic. "So moving those people is a death sentence. Asking health workers to do so is beyond cruel."

The film revolves around Murugan, his birth, marriage and his acceptance of the post of the head of the army of heaven. In Hinduism, there are six abodes of lord Muruga, known as the "Arupadaiveedu". The story behind each of the abodes are portrayed chronologically in the film. It starts with Swamimalai, where Lord Muruga teaches the meaning of the word 'OM' to his father, Shiva. He goes to Palani Hills after a fight over a sacred fruit, that is his second abode. Then he wins over the demon king Surapadman in Thiruchendur and that is his third abode. The King of heaven, Indra offers his daughter's hand in appreciation of Lord Muruga's victory and he marries her in Thirupparamkunram, his fourth abode. He later marries Valli in his fifth abode of Thiruthani, later after a short dispute between both his wives they amicably settle in Pazhamudircholai, his sixth abode. All the events are summarised by Nakkeerar, a great Tamil poet portrayed by Sirkazhi Govindarajan at the end of the film.

Tamil is one of the longest-surviving classical languages in the world. A. K. Ramanujan described it as "the only language of contemporary India which is recognizably continuous with a classical past". The variety and quality of classical Tamil literature has led to it being described as "one of the great classical traditions and literatures of the world". Recorded Tamil literature has been documented for over 2000 years. The earliest period of Tamil literature, Sangam literature, is dated from c. 300 BC until AD 300. It has the oldest extant literature among Dravidian languages. The earliest epigraphic records found on rock edicts and 'hero stones' date from around the 3rd century BC. About 60,000 of the 100,000 odd inscriptions found by the Archaeological Survey of India in India are in Tamil Nadu. Of them, most are in Tamil, with only about 5 percent in other languages. Tamil language inscriptions written in Brahmi script have been discovered in Sri Lanka and on trade goods in Thailand and Egypt. The two earliest manuscripts from India, acknowledged and registered by the UNESCO Memory of the World register in 1997 and 2005, were written in Tamil.

In 1578, Portuguese Christian missionaries published a Tamil prayer book in old Tamil script named Thambiran Vanakkam, thus making Tamil the first Indian language to be printed and published. The Tamil Lexicon, published by the University of Madras, was one of the earliest dictionaries published in Indian languages. According to a 2001 survey, there were 1,863 newspapers published in Tamil, of which 353 were dailies.

the best innings he has played for India

Rohit Sharma: I was in the dressing room. I don't have any words left. You got to expect something like this in a game like this. We wanted to stay in the game for as long as possible. That crucial partnership was the game-changing moment for us. The pitch had something in it. There was nice carry. Some swing and seam. Good to see from the bowling perspective. They had a good partnership (Iftikhar and Masood) after that.

They batted well towards the end as well. But we knew we had to bat out of our skin to chase this. Those two guys (Kohli and Pandya) are experienced. Staying calm and taking the game deep was very critical. Good for our confidence. Always crucial to get off the mark like this. We were in no position to win this. The way we won that's more pleasing for us. Hats off to Virat for the way he batted, has to be the best innings he has played for India. I would like to thank everyone, it's wonderful to see. Their support for us is very, very crucial wherever we go.

Babar Azam: Our bowlers bowled really well. All credit to Kohli and Pandya. It wasn't easy with the new ball. We had partnerships after 10 overs. We had a chance. We tried to stick to our plans. But credit to Virat Kohli. In the middle we decided we wanted a wicket and held the spinner back. We had a lot of positives. The way Iftikhar played and the way Shan played.

Virat Kohli | Player of the Match: It's a surreal atmosphere, I have no words, no idea how that happened. I am really lost for words. Hardik believed we can do it, if we stayed till the end. When Shaheen bowled from the pavilion end, that's when we decided to take him down. Haris is their prime bowler, and I hit those two sixes. The calculation was simple. Nawaz had one over to bowl, so if I could take Haris down, they would panic. From 28 in 8, it came down to 16 to 6. I tried to stick to my instincts. The first one was back of a hand slower ball (the one over long-on). Standing here I just feel like it was meant to be. Till today Mohali was my best innings against Australia. Today I will count this one higher. Hardik kept pushing me. The crowd has been phenomenal. You guys (fans) kept backing me and I am grateful for your support.

They are jumping on to Kohli. He has been engulfed by his mates. Rohit Sharma has lifted him on his arms and twirling him like a child. Is this the best T20 knock when there is so much of pressure? This is stuff of legends. It happens in fables and Bollywood potboilers when the hero comes out of nowhere to save the day. What a man! What a legend! Kohli seemed to be a little teary-eyed. India were dead and buried at 31 for 4. But Kohli and Pandya saw a few overs off. Then went for the attack after 10 overs and have managed to script something historic. But credit to Pakistan. They were ruffled early on but came back with the bat first in the second half and then carried the momentum when they had the ball in their hands. The seamers turned on the heat and Rohit and Rahul had no answers. SKY fizzled out too soon. Axar couldn't do what Nawaz did earlier in the Asia Cup.

History of Charminar Old City

History of Charminar

Charminar was built by Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah, the fifth ruler of the Qutb Shahi dynasty when he shifted his capital from Golconda to Hyderabad. The old city of Hyderabad was designed keeping Charminar as the centre of the city. The monument was built in order to commemorate the decision and eradication of plague from the city. It is known as Charminar as it is supported by four minarets on four sides.

Structure of Charminar

The Charminar is a square structure 20 meters in length from each side. It has four grand arches that face a fundamental point that open into four streets. There stands a 56 meters tall minaret at each corner with a double balcony. Each minaret has a dome on top with petal like designs at the base. You need to climb 149 steps to reach the upper floor.
The structure is made of granite, mortar, marble and limestone. There is a mosque located at the western end of the open roof. You can get a bird's eye view of the city from the balconies of Charminar. The devout people could offer prayers in a very peaceful manner inside the mosque.

Facts about Charminar

According to many old tales, there seems to exist a secret tunnel between the Charminar which leads way to the Golconda Fort. Many people of also said that there might be treasures hidden there but no one has been able to locate any such thing till now. At present, there are many high-rise buildings in the city of Hyderabad, but at the time it was built, Charminar was the first multi-storeyed building in the city. An important fact about Charminar is that there is a cat's head that is designed in the apex of one of the small arches on the eastern side because cats help in keeping away rats and rats once almost destroyed Hyderabad.
